I just read the rules, and was suprised to see that the only rule was no controller. Scince I would never consider playing without my conrol serfaces. I am curious to hear what you all think about playing without yours. My email is hidden but it is mobius@ninewire.net

by not allowing external control, and by frowning on the 'just push play' method, the message is to use the keyboard and mouse to control all the parameters. some people use desktop systems at these events, and an external mouse can be used. this blurs the line a little as i have seen some pretty nice mice. also, it depends on what software you use as to how much control you can get with just a laptop. ableton's 'live' is popular for sequencing on the fly. i think rule 2 should clarify the distinction between human sequenced and computer sequenced performance. the goal should be to sequence sounds live rather than have the computer do it for you...

i think rule 2 should clarify the distinction between human sequenced and computer sequenced performance. the goal should be to sequence sounds live rather than have the computer do it for you... while i agree with this statement, i also wanted to add that we wanted to keep the format open to allow for creativity. of course a live, realtime performance set will generally be preferred over DJ Winamp, but it really depends on who is battling who and who's got the goods. a more specific example is how i voted for terbo ted when he was against nick nice. it happened that they both played mp3 files with little intervention, but ted made use of the visual aspect of the battle in a way i hadn't seen before. of course, he was later eliminated by a live set, but i will tell you that none of the contestants wanted to be paired against him.

it is like hearing an mc read from a notebook. arranging your rhymes on paper before hand is kind of like playing tennis without a net.
