It would be useful to play an audio snip of each performance during the audience voting. I noticed that going second was an advantage, it would be helpful to remind the audience of the first performance.
And it would be useful to have a db meter to measure the applause, from the back of the stage. I noticed that groups near the judges had more influence for applause.
"Contestant one" , <bo-Do-bop bo-Do-bing ...> audience applause (98db)
"Contestant two" , <ping-pang-pong ping-pang-ping ...> audience applause (102db)

i like this idea, and was able to implement one aspect of it at this year's championship battle. you may or may not have noticed the db meter was projected as rows of little fourthcity robots. as far as playing back...i don't know, that would be fairly labor intensive.
